How to choose

Weight

Under 60 lb is carryable; 60–75 lb is car-trunk territory; over 75 lb folds for storage, not for lifting.

Folded size

Measure your trunk or closet. Most 20 in folders end up around 36–40 × 18 × 28–31 in.

Wheel size

20 in wheels are the sweet spot; 16 in wheels fold smaller but ride less comfortably.

Fit

Folders usually suit riders from about 5'0" to 6'2". Check the brand's minimum height.

Frequently asked questions

Is a folding e-bike worth it?

If you mix the bike with a car, train or apartment stairs, yes. If it lives in a garage, a non-folding bike rides better for the money.

Can tall people ride folding e-bikes?

Most fit riders up to about 6'2" with the seat and bar raised; above that, a full-size bike is more comfortable.
