How we rate e-bikes
Every e-bike on BikeScope is described with the same fields and rated with the same rules, so any two pages can be compared honestly.
Where the specs come from
We start from the Amazon listing and convert every value into the same units (watts, watt-hours, mph, miles, inches, pounds). E-bike listings lean hard on best-case numbers — "peak" watts, "up to" range in the lowest assist level, top speeds that exceed legal limits — and they often contradict themselves between the title, bullets and spec table. When that happens we say so on the product page. If a value isn't published, we show a dash (—). We never estimate a spec to fill a chart.
Rated vs peak power
U.S. e-bike laws use the motor's rated (continuous) power, capped at 750 W. Many listings only quote peak power (1,200–2,000 W). We show both when available and treat a missing rated figure as a gap, not as the peak.
The seven editor scores
Scores run from 0 to 10. Battery is calculated from the spec sheet on a fixed scale that's the same across the whole site, so adding new bikes never changes existing scores. The rest are editorial judgments.
| Score | How it's calculated |
|---|---|
| Battery | Formula: battery capacity from 250 Wh = 0 to 1,000 Wh = 10. Shown as n/a when the brand doesn't publish enough to work out watt-hours (volts × amp-hours). |
| Motor & speed | Editorial: rated motor power and torque first, peak claims second; top speed; how owners describe hill climbing. |
| Ride comfort | Editorial: suspension (none, front, full), tire width and size, saddle and riding position. |
| Portability | Editorial: bike weight, whether it folds and its folded size. |
| Brakes & safety | Editorial: hydraulic vs mechanical discs and rotor size, lights, UL 2849 certification, and whether the bike stays inside U.S. Class 1–3 limits. Bikes that exceed them lose points. |
| Build & support | Editorial: frame material, components (Shimano or generic), warranty length, seller, and how owners describe assembly, quality control and customer service. |
| Value | Editorial: what you get for the price range relative to similar bikes. |
The editor score shown on cards is a weighted average: value 20%; motor & speed, battery, ride comfort and brakes & safety 15% each; portability and build & support 10% each. An axis we can't verify (n/a) counts as 0, so missing data never makes a bike look better.
Owner reviews
We read the Amazon customer reviews for each listing and summarize the recurring themes, good and bad, in our own words. When a listing shares its reviews with other models or older versions, we say so.
Prices
We show a broad price range instead of an exact price, because prices on Amazon change daily and the price shown on Amazon at the time of purchase is the one that applies. Click through to see today's price.
